As of 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27, the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency was reporting 496,111 power outages after winds approaching 100 mph took down tree limbs, branches, and power lines overnight.
Eversource was also reporting 272,073 customers in Eastern Massachusetts and 192 in Western Massachusetts who were without power.
The windy weather continued on Wednesday morning, with gusts still topping 70 mph, according to NBC 10 Boston, forcing dozens of schools to cancel classes or delay their openings.
At one point, more than a dozen towns were left entirely without power on Wednesday morning following the storm:
- Abington;
- Chilmark;
- Cohasset;
- Essex;
- Halifax;
- Hamilton;
- Hanover;
- Hanson;
- Hingham;
- Holbrook;
- Norwell;
- Pembroke;
- Rockland;
- Whitman.
Wind and inclement weather forced the Massachusetts Steamship Authority to suspend all services as they faced power outages and weather concerns of their own.
“Good morning. The storm is continuing to bring high winds to the area. Travel on the roads is extremely dangerous so please do not attempt to come to our terminals,” They posted online. “Due to power issues we are unable to put out trip alerts but ALL SERVICE IS SUSPENDED until further notice.”
